Francis Lascelles [Frank] Jardine along with his younger brother Alexander William [Alex] Jardine were appointed to take 250 head of cattle from Rockhampton central Queensland to the new outpost at the tip of Cape York named Somerset. Until this time Cape York had not successfully been traversed overland, the party consisted of Frank his brother Alex, Richardson a surveyor, three stockmen, four Native Police troopers and 31 horses. The expedition began in Rockhampton on the 14th May 1864, they reached Somerset on the 2nd March 1865 with 50 head of cattle and 12 horses. This is the account of the brothers Jardine.
