Chasing the Rainbow - $22 AUD

There have been several books featuring the Palmer River gold rush of 1873-76, but this one is somewhat different. It deals with Glenville Pike’s several trips to the area, what he saw, the history he uncovered, and also his own involvement with some boyhood memories. Most importantly, this book includes the experiences of one of the early packers, portions of his journal being published here for the first time.

Glenville Pike has tried – in revealing atrocities caused by the greed for gold, and the rough life on the northern frontier viewed in the contexts of thinking of the period. Throughout the book is the theme of how the miners, in restless quest for fortune, were always looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. ‘’ Chasing the Rainbow “ is grippingly authentic.
